Planning Your Outdoor Camping Trip

There are several things to take into consideration when planning for a camping expedition. In addition to your camping checklist which ought to include items such as medical kit, safety gear, consumables, sleeping bag, flashlights, food and water amongst other things, you need to choose a suitable campsite and make reservations on time. This article looks at how to plan for a memorable camping trip.

#1: Choose a Suitable Location

While there are several camping areas, not all of them can provide you with the kind of experience you are looking for. A location should be selected based on the activities you would like to engage in while there. For example, if you like hiking, hunting and fishing, it is recommended that you go for camping in a mountainous area.

#2: Make Reservations

Camping sites can be swamped with holidaymakers during peak season. As such, there are limited spaces during summer and spring. Making early reservations ensures that you get a suitable spot on the campsite.

#3: Creating a Checklist

You can have a memorable or horrible experience depending on the camping gear you have packed. For example, it would not be wise to pack ordinary matches if you are going to camp in a mountainous area where chances of raining are high. The following are some of the things you need to include in your camping checklist:

–          Consumables: Aluminum foil, trash bags, paper towels, water jug, plastic bag, soap dish and water bottles.

–          Repair Kit: Screwdriver kit, hammer, duct tape and hammer.

–          Medical kit: First aid kit, sunscreen, prescription medications, allergy medications, insect repellent, antiseptic, abdomen medications, bandages and pain killers.

–          Personal Hygiene: Toothbrush, bar soap, bath towel, shampoo, toilet paper, toothpaste, shaving cream, hair brush, deodorant and wash cloth.

–          Cooking Gear: Tablecloth, tongs, can opener, firewood, portable stove and grill, frying pan and newspapers for creating fire.

–          Food and drinks: Because of the numerous outdoor activities, carry at least 5 liters of water per person. This is just for daily consumption. Pack surplus food as most people tend to eat a lot when outdoors. Include fresh fruits and vegetables as these do not require a lot of preparation.

–          Shelter and bedding: Sleeping bag, mattress, tent, pillow, under tent clothe and space blanket.

In addition to the items make sure you have packed a pocket knife, cellphone, compass and area map, binoculars, camping chairs, radio and games for children.
